Matched

Ally Condie, author of Matched and various other books.
Title: Matched
Author: Ally Condie
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Publisher: Dutton Juvenile
Publication Date: November 2010
Hardcover: 366

Summary: Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.
The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.
Book Review:
I liked this book. It was interesting and very well written. The idea of a society that controls everything, that says wether or not your going to die and so on, is interesting to me. Matched captivating. Cassia was pretty good female leading character. She was smart and not one of those girls who go head over heels for some guy. She keeps her friends close and doesn't take out her frustration, of whats happening, on them. Xander is the sweet best friend. Ky is the mysterious guy who can teach Cassia about things she needs to know. I always enjoy a good love triangle and a twisting plot, and I believe that Ally Condie did a great job. I liked The Hunger Games and The Giver in which Matched is similar. They all have the controlling government, and so on. If you like either The Giver or The Hunger Games then I would recommend this book to you. Overall a solid book.

Notable Quotes:
"Every minute you spend with someone gives them a part of your life and takes part of theirs."
"Growing apart doesn't change the fact that for a long time we grew side by side; our roots will always be tangled. I'm glad for that."
"Is falling in love with someone's story the same thing as falling in love with the person himself?"
"Ky can play this game. He can play all of their games, including the one in front of him that he just lost. He knows exactly how to play, and that's why he loses every time."
"That’s how I know they are dreams. Because the simple and plain and everyday things are the ones that we can never have. (Cassia Reyes)"
"Cassia.
I know which life is my real one now, no matter what happens. It’s the one with you. For some reason, knowing that even one person knows my story makes things different. Maybe it’s like the poem says. Maybe this is my way of not going gentle.
I love you. (Ky Markham)"
"Even if he didn't live his story, enough of us have lives just like it. So it's true anyway."
