Fallen & Torment

Lauren Kate, author of Fallen and Torment.
Title: Fallen
Author: Lauren Kate
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Publication Date: December 2009
Hardcover: 452 pages

Summary: There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.
Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move. Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce–and goes out of his way to make that very clear–she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.

Book Review: One girl, one boy an epic love story. Cheesy yes, good kinda. This isn't a total romance novel though. It has some action and plot twists. Overall though I thought that it didn't stand out from all the rest of the "fallen angel" novels. It was good, but the story line was a little too predictable. Plus the whole love thing with Luce and Daniel continuing lifetime after lifetime is going a little overboard. Basically it's like others books that I have read with some plot twists. Good writing, just not my taste in books.

Rating: C

I know that I said that I didn't really like the first bok Fallen. So why am I reading the second book in the series? I have this thing where if I don't hate a book I have to finish the series. Is that weird?

 Tittle: Torment
Author: Lauren Kate
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Publication Date: September 2010
Hardcover: 452 pages

Summary: Hell on earth. That's what it's like for Luce to be apart from her fallen angel boyfriend, Daniel. It took them an eternity to find one another, but now he has told her he must go away. Just long enough to hunt down the Outcasts - immortals who want to kill Luce. Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the rocky California coast with unusually gifted students -Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans.

At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives. Yet the more Luce learns, the more she suspects that Daniel hasn't told her everything. He's hiding something - something dangerous. What if Daniel's version of the past isn't actually true? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else? The second novel in the addictive FALLEN series . . . where love never dies.

Book Review: Normally the second book in the series is my least favorite in the series. Totally not with this one. I thought that Torment lived up to my expectations and more. It was a much better book than the first. I liked how in this one Luce wasn't as head over heels for Daniel. I also both liked and hated that Daniel didn't play as big of a part in this book. I liked it because you got to see Luce being more independent, and she really got a chance to make friends who aren't fallen angels. I didn't like is because even though his reasons were good, kinda, he was kind of a jerk in my opinion. I like Luce's new best friend, and I  found myself, kind of wishing that she would end up with Miles. I don't know why so I won't explain. Overall a pretty solid book. It broke away from the same story line than the first, kind of. That is what really made this book better than the first.

Rating: C+
