Hush Hush & Crescendo

Becca Fitzpatrick, author of Hush Hush and Crescendo.
Title: Hush Hush
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
Publication Date: October 2009
Hardcover: 391
Series: Book 1

Summary: For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her...until Patch comes along.
With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment, but after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is far more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

Book Review: Nora a seemingly normal girl. She is slightly on the boring side and uptight. When Patch walks into her life this all changes. He brings feeling up out of her that she doesn't expect. He is dangerous and totally not her type. Patch is more than he seems. He is more than some "bad boy". He is a fallen angel who is out to kill her. Nora can't help herself and she falls for him. Instead of leading to heartbreak it leads to helping Patch, making a few enemies, and learning things she didn't know about herself. I loved this book. The story was a little too love oriented for my taste, but it was pretty good anyway. Nora was a okay main character. She was a little boring in the beginning though. I also thought that Patch wasn't very kind. He forces Julies to give up rights to his body for one week and that's just an invasion of privacy! I don't really get why Nora would fall for Patch, but that is just my opinion. I liked Elliot at first and it was really interesting that the roll he would play later on was the exact opposite than at first. Vee is an awesome best friend for Nora. I don't know why I just really liked Vee. Overall a solid book.

Title: Crescendo
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
Publication Date: October 2010
Hardcover: 427
Series: Book 2

Summary: Feisty teen Nora Grey somehow survived the crises of Hush, Hush!, but dangers just as frightening loom in this standalone sequel. Patch, her guardian angel and love interest, appears to have a dark side and a wandering eye. Worse yet, he seems intent on obstructing Nora as she hunts for the truth behind her father's mysterious death.

Books Review: After the exciting events of the first book Nora must deal with a relationship that is gonna hit rock bottom soon, and the mystery of how her father was really killed. A twist of the story at the end concerning her mother, explains why Marcie hates her guts. Patch who us supposed to be Nora's guardian angel leaves her on her own taking more of an intrest in Marcie. The one things that was bad about this book is that Patch wasn't in it very much. I wanted to see more of Patch. I also didn't like how when he did make an appearance, he acted like a total jerk. He could have just told Nora about what was really going on. Other than that I thought this was pretty good. I liked how Nora was forced to make it on her own. It really brought out qualities that wouldn't have been shown any other way. I liked the twist with Rixon. Overall another solid book from Becca Fitzpatrick.

Notable Quotes:
"All this time I've hated myself for it. I thought I'd given it up for nothing. But if I hadn't fallen, I wouldn't have met you."

"Say 'provoking again. Your mouth looks provocative when you do."
"Keep in mind that people change, but the past doesn't."

"Being with you never felt wrong. It's the one thing I did right. You're the one thing I did right.
- Patch"

"Patch's eyes were slate black, darker than a million secrets stacked on top of each other. He dropped his gaze to the ring in his hand, turning it over slowly.
"Swear you'll never stop loving me," I whispered.
Ever so slightly, he nodded."
